Women in the Cruise Industry
Women have been taking the cruise industry by storm, climbing their way through the corporate latter to get to the top. Throughout the industry, there are many notable women running this industry we all love. Who are these incredible women and what are they going to do next?
Christine Duffy, President Carnival Cruise Line
In February of 2015 Carnival Cruise Line appointed Christine Duffy as President. Christine took on the role of leading the most recognized cruise line in history and has ensured the success of Carnival by doing so. Currently overseeing over 40,000 employees, 4.5 million passengers a year and 25, soon to be 26, cruise ships per year. Since taking office Christine has successfully put the trust back into the Carnival Cruise Line brand after a few years of tarnishment from multiple blunders. Christine has also introduced Carnivals Largest and most innovative cruise ship ever, the Carnival Vista, and will introduce her sister ship Carnival Horizon in 2018 and addition two more sister ships in coming years.
In addition to her successes at Carnival Christine spent 4 years as CEO at the Cruise Line International Association after 10 years at Maritz Travel Company 6 of those 10 years she spent as CEO. Maritz Travel is the largest corporate meetings, events, and incentive travel company. Christine is currently on the board of directors for Visit Florida and the U.S. Travel Association in addition to the Professional Advisory Board at Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, CEO Celebrity Cruises
In December of 2014, Celebrity Cruises appointed Lisa Lutoff- Perlo as CEO making her the first female CEO of a publicly traded cruise line on the New York Stock Exchange. Lisa has spent 29 years at Royal Caribbean Cruises in numerous roles. Some of her most notable work is the launch of the Quantum Class of ships, the introduction of Harmony and Symphony of the Seas in addition to the launch of Freedom of the Seas, which at the time was an industry changing ship. Lutoff- Perlo is also responsible for some of Royal Caribbean International's most famous alliances, including Johnny Rockets, Seattle's Best Coffee, Crayola, and Fisher-Price. In addition to heading the Modern Luxury brand, Lutoff-Perlo serves on the board of directors for Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board, Greater Milwaukee Open PGA tour event and the Betty Brinn Children's Museum.
