Disney Cruise Line Names All Disney Cast, Crew, and Employees as Honorary “Godparents” to the New Disney Treasure
In a tribute to the heart and soul of Disney magic, Disney Cruise Line announces that all Disney employees worldwide will hold the honorary title of godparents to the Disney Treasure, which will set sail in 2024.
Today, Disney Cruise Line made a historic announcement: its newest ship, the Disney Treasure, will have a unique group of godparents—an honor bestowed upon all 200,000-plus Disney Cast Members, Crew Members, Imagineers, and employees worldwide. This marks a profound tribute to the “dreamers and doers” who contribute to every Disney experience and create cherished memories for families across the globe.
The honorary designation reflects Disney’s admiration for its expansive workforce, the creative minds and dedicated service providers who elevate Disney’s entertainment, hospitality, and at-home experiences. Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, shared his pride in this groundbreaking decision: “At the core of everything we do at Disney are the dedicated Cast Members and employees who create the magic that brings joy to millions of people around the globe. That’s why we are proud to honor all Disney employees as the godparents of the Disney Treasure.” This honorary role, he emphasized, is a “tribute to the dreamers and doers who continue to tell our stories in the most compelling and innovative ways.”
This gesture reimagines the traditional role of a ship’s godparent, a figure who, in maritime tradition, offers blessings for the ship’s good fortune and safety during its christening ceremony. In 2022, Disney Cruise Line redefined the godparent role by naming all Make-A-Wish children—past, present, and future—as godchildren of the Disney Wish, sister ship to the Disney Treasure. Now, with this new honor for its employees, Disney continues to set new standards in the cruise industry, celebrating those who bring Disney storytelling to life.
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, praised the collective talent and dedication of Disney’s vast global team. “Every magical guest experience is the result of the collective effort of tens of thousands of Disney Cast Members, Crew Members, Imagineers, and employees,” he said. Their hard work, creativity, and service contribute to Disney’s leadership in the entertainment and hospitality sectors.
The Disney Treasure promises to live up to its name, bringing adventure to life through the stories and characters Disney fans adore. Guests can look forward to an exclusive Broadway-style retelling of Moana, immersive dining inspired by Coco and Marvel Super Heroes, a thrilling water attraction with Mickey Mouse, and fireworks displays at sea. Kids’ clubs, as well as new lounges inspired by the classic Jungle Cruise and Disney’s Haunted Mansion, among other iconic attractions, will offer something for everyone on board.
Set to launch as part of Disney Cruise Line’s multi-year expansion, the Disney Treasure joins a fleet that will continue to grow through 2031. With this growth, Disney Cruise Line reinforces its role as an ambassador of Disney’s storytelling, bringing Disney's magic to families worldwide.
