As MSC Cruises prepares for its highly anticipated debut in Alaska, the cruise line is investing heavily in enhancing the onboard experience aboard MSC Poesia—with a major focus on wellness. Currently undergoing an extensive dry dock refurbishment, MSC Poesia will emerge with a completely refreshed spa and fitness experience, designed specifically to complement the unique demands of an Alaska cruise.
A Spa Experience Reimagined for Alaska
Alaska is known for its rugged beauty, cooler temperatures, and adventure-filled itineraries—and MSC is ensuring guests have the perfect way to unwind after a day exploring it all. The newly redesigned MSC Aurea Spa will feature upgraded treatment rooms and a modernized thermal area, creating a serene and contemporary retreat at sea. Guests can relax in a warm, tranquil environment while enjoying ocean views—an especially appealing contrast after a day spent in Alaska’s crisp outdoor air. According to Lynn Torrent, the enhancements were carefully designed to match the destination itself: “We have taken a thoughtful approach to enhancing MSC Poesia, ensuring the onboard experience matches Alaska’s bold and inspiring character and surpasses our guests’ expectations.”
Wellness Experiences Inspired by the Destination
What sets this upgrade apart is how tailored it is to Alaska cruising.
Guests will have access to cold-climate-focused wellness treatments, including specialized massages and therapies aimed at:
Relieving muscle tension
Promoting relaxation
Helping the body recover from colder conditions
In addition, new post-excursion recovery experiences will be introduced—perfect for guests returning from glacier hikes, wildlife tours, or active shore excursions.
Thermal Relaxation with Scenic Views
One of the standout features of the updated spa will be its thermal area, offering a unique juxtaposition between Alaska’s icy landscapes and the warmth of onboard relaxation. Guests will be able to soak in calming heat experiences while gazing out at some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world—creating a wellness moment that is both immersive and unforgettable.

Expanded Fitness & Personalized Wellness
The enhancements go beyond relaxation. The MSC Gym by Technogym® will be fully relocated and expanded, featuring:
Brand-new equipment
A more open and flexible layout
Dedicated group fitness studios
A separate cycling studio
For those looking to stay on track—or start fresh—MSC will also introduce personalized wellness consultations, including:
Footbalance assessments
InBody body composition analysis
These offerings allow guests to maintain their fitness routines or tailor a wellness plan during their cruise.

Retail Designed for the Alaska Climate
To further align with the destination, the spa’s retail selection will also be updated to include products specifically suited to colder environments.
Guests can expect:
Warming creams
Hydrating treatments
Nourishing oils
These products are designed to protect and restore skin exposed to Alaska’s elements, adding another layer to the overall wellness experience.
MSC Cruises’ First Alaska Season
From May through September 2026, MSC Poesia will sail 7-night Alaska itineraries from Seattle, marking a major milestone for MSC Cruises as it enters the Alaska market for the first time. With these wellness-focused upgrades, MSC is positioning itself to deliver not just scenic cruising—but a fully immersive, restorative experience tailored to one of the world’s most iconic destinations.
