Carnival Reveals Carnival Destiny With 70% New Venues and 4.5 Acres of Glass

Carnival Destiny will debut in summer 2029 as the first of three next-generation Ace Class ships.

Carnival Cruise Line has revealed Carnival Destiny, the first ship in its next-generation Ace Class and the beginning of a major new era for the cruise line. Arriving in summer 2029, the massive new ship will feature more than 70 percent new venues, over 4.5 acres of glass and an unprecedented number of ocean-view balcony cabins.

Carnival Destiny Will Be the First Ace Class Ship

Carnival Destiny will become the first of three ships in Carnival’s newly named Ace Class. The new class was previously known as Project Ace and represents Carnival’s largest new-ship development in years. Two additional Ace Class ships are scheduled to follow Carnival Destiny, with deliveries planned for 2031 and 2033. Carnival previously confirmed that the ships will measure approximately 230,000 gross tons, include more than 3,000 staterooms, and accommodate nearly 8,000 passengers at full capacity. That will make the Ace Class vessels the largest ships constructed for Carnival Corporation’s global cruise fleet.

More Than 70 Percent of the Ship Will Be New for Carnival

Carnival Destiny will introduce a major shift in the types of spaces and experiences passengers will find aboard a Carnival ship.

More than 70 percent of its venues and attractions will be entirely new concepts, including:

  • Reimagined restaurants and dining experiences

  • Next-generation bars and lounges

  • Immersive entertainment venues

  • New outdoor attractions and gathering spaces

Carnival has not yet revealed the names or specific details of those venues, but additional announcements are expected later in 2026.

The cruise line described Carnival Destiny as a bold evolution of how passengers will dine, relax, explore and experience entertainment at sea.

Carnival Is Designing Its Most Ocean-Focused Megaship

One of Carnival Destiny’s defining features will be its focus on ocean views.

Carnival is calling the vessel its most outward-facing megaship, with a design intended to keep the ocean visible from more locations aboard.

Carnival Destiny will include more than 4.5 acres of glass, including expansive, multi-story glass walls across its public areas.

The ship will also feature an unprecedented number of ocean-view balcony cabins and a completely reimagined lanai deck. Together, those features are expected to create wider sightlines across the vessel and provide more opportunities for passengers to see and experience the ocean without needing to visit a traditional exterior deck.

“Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea,” Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said.

“With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again, creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”

The Carnival Destiny Name Returns

The Carnival Destiny name has an important place in cruise industry history.

The original Carnival Destiny entered service in 1996 and was the world’s largest cruise ship at the time. It also became the first passenger ship to exceed 100,000 gross tons, helping launch the modern megaship era. That vessel was also constructed by Fincantieri, beginning a shipbuilding partnership with Carnival that has now continued for more than 30 years. The original Carnival Destiny was renamed Carnival Sunshine following an extensive 2013 transformation and continues to sail for Carnival today. The return of the Destiny name connects Carnival’s next generation of ships with one of the most significant vessels in the cruise line’s history.

Carnival Destiny Will Visit the Paradise Collection

Carnival Destiny will sail to destinations within the Paradise Collection by Carnival, the cruise line’s portfolio of exclusive destinations across the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico. Carnival describes the collection as the cruise industry’s largest portfolio of exclusive destinations in the region. Its destinations include Celebration Key on Grand Bahama, RelaxAway at Half Moon Cay and other ports and destinations developed or operated for Carnival passengers. Carnival has not yet announced Carnival Destiny’s homeport, inaugural itinerary or exact maiden voyage date.

More Carnival Destiny Details Are Coming

Carnival Destiny is currently scheduled for delivery in summer 2029.

The cruise line plans to reveal additional information about the ship’s accommodations, restaurants, bars, entertainment and outdoor attractions later this year.

With most of the onboard experience being designed specifically for the new class, Carnival Destiny will be significantly different from the line’s current Excel Class ships.

It will also become the first Carnival ship to carry the Destiny name in more than a decade, beginning a new era for the cruise line nearly 33 years after the original ship made history.
