MSC World Asia’s 39-Foot Dragon Is Now in Place

MSC World Asia’s massive dragon has officially taken its place.
MSC Cruises has completed the installation of the 39-foot sculpture above the ship’s Outdoor World Promenade, providing the first real-world look at what is expected to become MSC World Asia’s defining visual landmark.
The pearlescent-white dragon incorporates nearly 700 mirrors, approximately 1,312 feet of integrated lighting and more than 3,000 LED light points. Suspended 32 feet above the promenade, it will reflect natural light during the day before illuminating the open-air district after dark.
The installation marks another major construction milestone for MSC World Asia, which is scheduled to welcome its first guests on Dec. 4, 2026.
A 39-Foot Dragon Above the Promenade
MSC World Asia’s dragon measures approximately 39 feet long and 11.4 feet wide. The stainless-steel sculpture is suspended above the Outdoor World Promenade, an open-air district that combines ocean views with dining, entertainment, and relaxation spaces.
At 32 feet above the promenade, the dragon will be visible throughout the multilevel outdoor area while emphasizing the district’s vertical scale.
Designed by Balich Wonder Studio, the sculpture forms part of MSC World Asia’s broader collection of design elements influenced by Asian culture, art and landscapes.
Balich Wonder Studio is an international creative company behind major live entertainment productions and ceremonies worldwide. Its dragon is more than a standalone decorative feature; it has become one of the ship’s central visual landmarks.
“For the first time, an icon becomes the defining symbol of a ship: a powerful expression of identity, created to inspire dreams and enrich every journey,” said Marco Balich, chairman of Balich Wonder Studio.
“The dragon brings together vision, craftsmanship and emotion, creating an experience that will remain with guests long after their journey.”
Nearly 700 Mirrors and More Than 3,000 LED Lights
Constructed from stainless steel and finished in pearlescent white, the dragon features nearly 700 mirrors across its surface.
Approximately 1,312 feet of integrated strip lighting and more than 3,000 individual LED light points have also been incorporated into the sculpture.
The reflective surfaces are designed to respond to the changing natural light throughout the Outdoor World Promenade, creating a sense of motion as the dragon appears to fly above the ship.
After dark, the integrated lighting will illuminate the sculpture and transform it into part of the promenade’s nighttime atmosphere.
MSC World Asia Will Debut in December 2026
MSC World Asia remains under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The ship will become the third vessel in MSC Cruises’ World Class series, following MSC World Europa and MSC World America. MSC World Asia is scheduled to begin sailing on Dec. 4, 2026, offering seven-night Mediterranean cruises. Its initial itineraries will include Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia for Rome, Messina and Valletta. The new flagship will combine European design with international influences while offering a broad selection of restaurants, entertainment venues and family-focused attractions.
MSC World Asia Will Sail in the Southern Caribbean
Following its initial Mediterranean seasons, MSC World Asia will reposition to the Southern Caribbean for the winter 2027–2028 season.
The ship will offer seven- and 14-night itineraries with embarkation available from Fort-de-France, Martinique; Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe; and Bridgetown, Barbados. Scheduled destinations include Castries, Saint Lucia; St. George’s, Grenada; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda; Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis; Roseau, Dominica; and Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The deployment will bring MSC World Asia’s open-air attractions—including the Outdoor World Promenade and its newly installed dragon—to a warm-weather cruising region for the first time. With the dragon now in position, construction continues in Saint-Nazaire as MSC World Asia moves closer to its December 2026 debut, its initial Mediterranean seasons and its later arrival in the Southern Caribbean during winter 2027–2028.
