Miami commenced 2026 seeing Stars. On January 15, the spotlight at PortMiami shifted from record-breaking mega ships to refined yacht-style cruising as Star Seeker was officially christened in an elegant ceremony marking a major milestone for Windstar Cruises.

In a port known for launching some of the largest vessels in the world, Star Seeker’s debut delivered something distinctly different: intimacy, intentional design, and a renewed focus on immersive travel.

A Ceremony Grounded in Maritime Tradition

The January 15 ceremony in Miami honored longstanding nautical customs while reflecting Windstar’s understated luxury approach.

Company executives addressed travel advisors, media, and invited guests, highlighting Star Seeker as a strategic expansion of the brand’s small-ship fleet. The vessel’s godmother delivered remarks centered on exploration and meaningful connection to the sea before officially naming the yacht. The ceremonial champagne bottle was released against the hull, shattering on impact — a symbolic blessing for safe journeys ahead. Crew members lined the outer decks in formal whites, reinforcing the yacht-style atmosphere that defines the Windstar experience. The tone of the event remained polished and refined, consistent with the scale and personality of the ship itself.

A New Addition to Windstar’s Growing Fleet

Star Seeker is designed to carry approximately 224 guests, positioning her firmly within the boutique luxury segment. Unlike larger vessels focused on high-volume entertainment and attractions, this yacht emphasizes destination access and personalized service.

Key features include:

Suites onboard Windstar Star Seeker

All-Suite Accommodations

Every stateroom onboard is a suite. Many include private verandas, while interiors reflect a residential, modern-yacht aesthetic with warm woods, soft coastal tones, and expansive windows.

Destination-Driven Dining

Windstar continues its culinary collaboration with the James Beard Foundation, offering regionally inspired menus tailored to the ship’s itineraries. Dining venues are intentionally intimate, with open seating and a relaxed pace.

Signature Marina Platform

At anchor, the yacht’s marina platform opens at sea level, allowing guests direct access to the water for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, and other watersports. This feature remains a hallmark of the Windstar brand and reinforces its connection to the destinations visited.

Strategic Launch in the Cruise Capital

Choosing Miami for the christening carries symbolic weight. PortMiami remains one of the world’s most important cruise hubs, home to groundbreaking infrastructure and industry-leading capacity.

Launching Star Seeker here underscores Windstar’s continued presence in the North American luxury market while differentiating its product from the mega-ship segment that dominates the skyline.

Following her christening, Star Seeker began sailing curated itineraries designed around smaller ports, extended stays, and immersive destination experiences. Initial deployments include Caribbean voyages before expanding into Mediterranean sailings.

Industry Context: Growth Beyond Size

The arrival of Star Seeker highlights a broader trend within the cruise industry. While ship size continues to grow in certain segments, there is parallel demand for:

  • Smaller guest capacities

  • Personalized service environments

  • Destination immersion

  • Elevated culinary programs

  • Expanded open-deck space

Luxury and yacht-style cruising have seen sustained interest as travelers seek experiences that prioritize atmosphere and access over scale. Star Seeker’s entry into service reflects that balance — growth not through size, but through refinement.

Looking Ahead

As Star Seeker begins her inaugural season following the January 15 christening in Miami, she enters the market at a time when traveler expectations are evolving. Guests are increasingly prioritizing meaningful itineraries, spacious environments, and tailored onboard experiences. In a city often associated with “bigger is better,” the launch of Star Seeker demonstrated that measured expansion and intentional design remain powerful forces within the cruise industry. With her official naming complete, the yacht now turns its focus to the destinations ahead — offering a style of cruising built around connection, access, and elevated simplicity.
