Music legend and cultural icon Diana Ross is embarking on a maritime journey into history. Royal Caribbean International has officially named Ross as the godmother of Star of the Seas, the newest addition to its groundbreaking Icon Class of ships, which is set to debut in August 2025.

In keeping with centuries-old maritime tradition, Ross will serve as the ship’s ceremonial guardian, bestowing good luck and protection upon the vessel, its crew, and the millions of guests who will sail aboard it in the years to come. The momentous occasion will be marked by an iconic naming ceremony hosted in the ship’s AquaTheater, located within the state-of-the-art AquaDome neighborhood—a space defined by sweeping ocean views and immersive experiences.

“I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” Ross said. “Having spent years creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”

The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will headline the event, adding a show-stopping performance to a celebration designed to match the ship’s unmatched energy and family-focused innovation. Royal Caribbean is teasing more surprises and ways fans can join the festivities via its Instagram page. President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley, praised the pairing of Ross and Star of the Seas, calling it a natural fit.

“We are thrilled to have Diana Ross join us for the debut of Star of the Seas, the next bold vacation in our revolutionary Icon Class,” said Bayley. “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together.”

Star of the Seas promises to raise the bar for family vacations at sea, combining beach vibes, resort luxury, and theme park thrills. From the Category 6 waterpark—the largest at sea—to seven expansive pools, awe-inspiring entertainment including Back to the Future: The Musical, and over 40 dining and drink venues such as the Lincoln Park Supper Club, the ship will offer a vacation experience unlike any other.

Launching from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, Star of the Seas will sail 7-night itineraries to top destinations in the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including the fan-favorite private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.

This launch marks the beginning for Royal Caribbean, with future developments including the Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island in December 2025, the Royal Beach Club Cozumel in 2026, and Perfect Day Mexico in the fall of 2027.

As the world eagerly awaits its arrival, Star of the Seas and its legendary godmother are poised to deliver a vacation experience destined to make waves for generations.
